A mayan ceremony
In a small village in Guatemala, a group of farmers from the Chontal Maya community gather to pray to Mother Nature just days before the cacao harvest begins. They ask for abundance and protection from disease. During the ceremony, a duck is sacrificed to invoke the spirits—its blood poured over cacao pods and candles that illuminate the small room, while the ceremonial leader recites the sacred prayer. This act of spiritual devotion blends ancestral beliefs with Christian faith, uniting reverence for the spirits and for Jesus Christ in a single, powerful rite.
